This post for all who do not have serger (overlock) and coverstitch machine. All of us like jersey clothing. And you should know you can sew all of them even if you have only sewing machine.

When you sew for yourself, it is ok to leave edges of garment not sewn.  Jersey, good jersey, does not crumble and it is ok not to use serger.  And sew parts of it is also possible with regular sewing machine, even with the most simple one.
So let’s start!

I’m showing here sewing stitches and describing my experience of using them. All of them my sewing machine has. Look at yours I hope you will find some of them on it also.

1. Stretch stitch
Actually there are two types: Triple stretch stitch  and hand look stitch. They are very comfortable to use. They look very neatly. Stretching effect is very food. The seams are very strong. If you have such use it to sew parts or edges.

2. Decorative wave stitch

This one is also very good to use for knit fabric.
If you have more decorative stitches just try them on jersey fabric. Some of them can be used for sewing.

3. 3-point zigzag stitch

Many sewing machines have this kind of stitch even very old ones have. The main goal of it attaching elastic ribbon.

4. Regular zigzag stitch

All sewing machines have it. You can change the width of it and use to sew parts of garment or sew edges.

5. Stretch stitch

Also very old style stretch stitch, but it works!

6. Blind hem stitch

It saves 100% elasticity of fabric.  Before using it read carefully instructions and you will have very good result.
By the way I saw a lot of  jersey clothing where this type of stitch was in use!

One more possibility is to use double needle.  But I have never managed to get perfect result with it, so I do no not use it.

So get familiar with your sewing machine and you will find very useful things.
